Dictionary.com chose 'maxxing' as the word of the year, with the company's Steve Johnson explaining that the word stood out due to its usage in various areas. "Archived internet data shows evidence of the term existing as far back as 2015, and by 2021 at the latest, related terms like moneymaxxing, statusmaxxing, and surgerymaxxing were in circulation," Dictionary.com said.
