Why is India's top industrial state Gujarat urging factories to cut power usage?

Gujarat, India's top industrial state, has urged factories to cut power usage by shifting production away from peak evening hours (5-11 pm). The appeal comes as half of India's 191 ⁠coal-fired power plants are operating with critically low coal inventories. Hotter weather linked to El Niño, higher irrigation needs ​and increased industrial activity have driven the country's power demand.
