The Supreme Court on Thursday said parental income cannot be the sole factor to identify whether a candidate belongs to 'creamy layer' or the 'non-creamy layer' of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The court stated that determining status only on the basis of income, without any reference to the post or status parameters of the category, is not sustainable in law.
