India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for a heatwave in Uttar Pradesh for May 20 and 21. IMD also issued a yellow alert for eastern UP from May 22 to 26, while an orange alert has been sounded for western UP during the same period. Banda recorded a maximum temperature of 48.2°C on Tuesday, highest in the state.
