A surge in the crowd around 1 km from Triveni Sangam led to stampede at around 2 am on Wednesday, ahead of 'Amrit Snan' on Mauni Amavasya at Maha Kumbh. UP CM Yogi Adityanath said the stampede occurred when devotees tried to cross barricades. As per eyewitnesses, the crowd went uncontrolled after barricades broke. Several people have been seriously injured.
