Scientists at Garvan Institute of Medical Research have revealed that a century-old drug, metformin, which is widely used for type 2 diabetes, may help people with type 1 diabetes reduce insulin dependence. The drug allowed patients to use about 12% less insulin while maintaining stable blood sugar levels. In Type-1 diabetes, the immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in pancreas.
