Why does the Moon have craters but Earth looks crater-free?

Both Earth and Moon have been struck by asteroids and meteorites throughout their 4.5-billion-year history. However, Earth erases the evidence through erosion, tectonic activity and volcanic flows that constantly resurface the land. The Moon has no atmosphere, so asteroids and meteorites travelling through space are never slowed down or burnt up before they hit the surface.
