Several celebrities from the film industry attended Manoj Kumar's prayer meet in Mumbai on Sunday. Aamir Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar and Neil Nitin Mukesh were among the people who paid their respects to the veteran actor. Manoj Kumar passed away at the age of 87 on Friday. He was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai on Saturday.

Investors lost around ₹19 lakh crore from their wealth on Monday after Indian stock market crashed amid a global selloff triggered by escalating trade tensions and rising recession fears in the US. Sensex crashed around 3,000 points, while Nifty was down by almost 1,000 points. All major sectors were in the red, with Nifty IT falling over 7%.

Sensex crashed over 3,000 points on Monday and was trading at 72,122.64, while Nifty tumbled over 970 points at market open. This comes as Asian stock markets plunged a day after US futures opened sharply lower following the announcement of reciprocal tariffs by US President Donald Trump. Trent and TD Power Systems were among the top losers on Sensex.

Donald Trump's advisor Kevin Hassett has claimed that over 50 nations have reached out to the US to negotiate a trade deal after the US President imposed reciprocal tariffs. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent played down US stock market's deep plunge, saying there was "no reason" to expect a recession due to the reciprocal tariffs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, marking the opening of India's first vertical lift railway sea bridge. The 2.07-kilometre-long bridge spans the Palk Strait. The 72.5-meter navigational span can be lifted up to 17 meters, allowing larger ships to pass underneath. The new bridge is 3 meters higher than the existing one.

India's first vertical lift sea bridge in Tamil Nadu, new Pamban Bridge, has been constructed with stainless steel reinforcement, high-grade protective paint, and fully welded joints. The 2.07-kilometre-long bridge's 72.5-metre navigational span can be lifted up to 17 metres, allowing larger ships to pass underneath. Its special polysiloxane coating ensures longevity in harsh marine environment.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued severe heat wave warnings for places across India till April 10. Severe heatwave conditions are very likely to persist in parts of Gujarat, West Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh, according to IMD. In coastal areas, some parts of Konkan and Goa are likely to witness heatwave conditions, IMD said.
