R Raja left school after Class 6 due to his financial condition and worked as a tree-cutter to support himself. His perspective changed after watching the trees near his home in Puducherry being felled for expansion of the road. Over the years, Raja has helped add thousands of trees across Puducherry, restoring riverbanks, backwaters, and coastal ecosystems.
