FIFA has introduced special patches on team kits to honour individual achievements at the World Cup. Argentina captain Lionel Messi and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo have Legacy patches, which FIFA introduced for players featuring in their fifth or more World Cup. Similarly, debutants get debut patches, while past Golden Boot, Golden Ball and Golden Glove winners get gold honour patches.
