Govt mandates use of IST as time reference, to be implemented in 180 days

The government notified that Indian Standard Time (IST) will be used as the common time reference for legal, administrative and commercial purposes across India. It informed organisations that the rules will come into force in 180 days. The government said a uniform time source would improve coordination across railways, airports, other transport systems, telecommunication and internet networks.
