Oldest Test debutant played his first match aged 49 years

The oldest player to make a Test debut was England's James Southerton, who was 49 years and 119 days old when he played his first-ever Test match against Australia in 1877. He was also the first Test cricketer to die, less than three months before the first Test on English soil. Southerton was born on November 16, 1827.
