India's banking sector reported a 46% jump in frauds to ₹48,021 crore in FY26 from ₹32,803 crore in the previous fiscal, the highest in three years, as per RBI's annual report. Public sector banks accounted for 74% of the total fraud amount, reporting frauds worth ₹35,709 crore. However, the number of fraud cases reduced 57% YoY to 10,114 in FY26.
