40% of India's coal plants face critically low fuel stocks

Around 40% of India's coal-fired power plants are running on critically low fuel stocks, with 74 plants having less than 25% coal stocks as of September 19. El Niño-driven heat has spiked power demand to 230-250GW. Coal imports hit a 15-month high in August as utilities turned to expensive overseas supplies.
