Why is it important to have third-party car insurance?

Third-party car insurance is mandatory in India and protects vehicle owners from financial liabilities if an accident causes injury, death or property damage to others. Without it, owners may have to pay compensation from their own pockets and even old cars need it as they can still cause expensive accidents. Third-party insurance, however, doesn't cover damage to our own vehicle.
