Germany have lost more men's FIFA World Cup finals than any other nation, finishing runners-up four times. They were defeated by England in 1966, Italy in 1982, Argentina in 1986 and Brazil in 2002. Argentina and the Netherlands follow Germany with three defeats each. Netherlands are the only side to lose three finals without ever lifting the trophy.
