India’s first medallist at Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026, para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar, once sold vegetables and drove an e-rickshaw to fund his training. After his family’s shop temporarily shut, he sold the vehicle to travel to nationals tournament in 2023. Jhandu, who hails from Bihar, had contracted Polio when he was five years old. He bagged bronze medal on Friday.
