Centre moves SC to stay hearings on Great Nicobar project

The Union government has moved the Supreme Court to stay further proceedings in the petitions pending final hearing before the Calcutta High Court on the Great Nicobar Island project. The petition alleges that provisions of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) were violated while obtaining consent for the Centre's ₹92,000-crore project. The petition was filed by retired IAS officer Meena Gupta.
