How is Japan trying to turn snowfall into electricity?

Japanese researchers in Aomori city, which receives the country's highest annual snowfall, are collecting snow inside abandoned swimming pool. Pipes draw cold air from snow-filled chambers as well as warmer outside air, which meet inside a turbine system. The temperature contrast spins turbine to generate electricity. The early tests show promising but limited generation capacity.
