Why is the Indian flag unfurled on Republic Day but hoisted on Independence Day?

The unfurling and hoisting of National Flag carry different symbolic meanings on India's national days. On Republic Day (January 26), the President unfurls the flag, which is tied at the top. It symbolises the nation's reaffirmation of its commitment to the Constitution. On Independence Day (August 15), the PM hoists it from base to top, signifying freedom from colonial rule.
