Bangladesh foreign minister elected UN General Assembly President

Bangladesh's foreign minister, Khalilur Rahman, has been elected as the president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Rahman defeated the Cyprus candidate by eight votes. He takes over the baton from current UN General Assembly President and former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, only the fifth female president of the organisation in its 80-year history.
