The Bill was passed with 288 votes in its favour and 232 votes against it, after a discussion that lasted over ten hours.

Russia missing from Trump's reciprocal tariffs list

Russia didn't feature on the list of reciprocal tariffs released by US President Donald Trump, who earlier said he'd "tariff the entire world". "Russia isn't on this list because sanctions from the Ukraine war have already rendered trade between the two countries to zero," a White House official told news outlet NOTUS. Trump imposed a 26% reciprocal tariff on India.

Mixed bag, not a setback: Indian govt official on Trump's 26% tariffs

A senior Indian government official said the Commerce Ministry is analysing the impact of the 26% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods. "It's a mixed bag and not a setback for India," the official told PTI. The official said that 10% universal tariffs will come into effect from April 5 and remaining 16% from April 10.

Canada and Mexico were excluded from list of countries on which US President Donald Trump imposed new reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday (April 2). However, this doesn't mean they don't face any action as existing 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods are in effect, while some tariffs on automotive products will take effect on Thursday. India faces 26% reciprocal tariffs.

He imposed a 37% reciprocal tariff on Bangladesh, 44% on Sri Lanka, 10% on Ukraine, 29% on Pakistan and 10% on Iran.

US to charge 26% 'discounted' tariff on all products India exports to the country

US President Donald Trump announced that 26% "discounted" tariff will be imposed on imports from India. Trump called India "very, very tough", saying, "PM [Narendra Modi] just left. He's great friend of mine, but I said, 'You're a friend of mine but you've not been treating us right'." India charges 52% tariff on goods it imports from US, Trump noted.
Waqf Amendment Bill passed in Lok Sabha

Fighter jet crashes in Gujarat, massive fire breaks out

An Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft crashed in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district on Wednesday. Videos have surfaced on social media showing thick plumes of smoke engulfing the area following the crash. Police and emergency services have rushed to the spot. Last month, a Jaguar jet had crashed in Haryana's Ambala district after a training sortie.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service is down for several users across India, according to data available with Downdetector.in. Services on UPI apps like Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe and on banking apps like that of SBI are facing issues due to the disruptions in UPI service. Downdetector.in's data showed 59% of the users reported issues with fund transfer.

Poonam Gupta appointed RBI's Deputy Governor

Poonam Gupta, DG of National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), has been appointed RBI's Deputy Governor. She joined NCAER in 2021 after working in senior positions for nearly two decades at IMF and World Bank. She holds a Master's degree and PhD in Economics from University of Maryland and a Master's degree in Economics from Delhi School of Economics.
