Transgender IDs issued before 2026 law to remain valid: Centre

Transgender identity cards issued before the enactment of the 2026 amendment to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act will continue to remain operational, the Centre told the Supreme Court. The court, during the previous hearing, said that the 2026 amendment could not affect rights that have already been accrued. The court was hearing 15 petitions challenging the amended law.
