Keto diets may increase risk of cancer in small intestine: MIT study
A high-fat and low-carb ketogenic diet, used for weight loss, may increase the risk of some cancers, an MIT study suggests. In mice genetically prone to intestinal cancer, the diet increased small-intestinal tumours while unexpectedly reducing colon tumours. Researchers found that dietary fat boosted intestinal stem-cell growth through fatty-acid oxidation, promoting tumour formation in the mice.
