SC issues notice to Centre as media body says data privacy law 'could shut newsrooms'

Supreme Court issued notice to the Centre on Digital News Publishers Association's plea challenging provisions of Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and Rules, 2025. The association says failure to exempt journalistic activities could hinder investigative reporting, expose confidential sources and force newsrooms to delete reports. This will shut down the newsroom, DNPA said.
