What are N1 sleep, N2 sleep and N3 sleep?

N1 sleep refers to the first stage of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and is lightest stage of sleep, while N2 sleep represents deeper sleep as the heart rate and body temperature drop. N3 is the deepest stage of NREM sleep and is the most difficult to be awakened from. Approximately 75% of sleep is spent in the NREM stages.
