Deaf girl's hearing restored after new gene therapy's trial

Opal Sandy, an 18-month-old girl from UK who was born deaf due to a rare genetic condition, has had her hearing restored after becoming youngest child to be part of a gene therapy trial. Opal underwent the therapy when she was 11 months old and began responding to sound within four weeks. She can now respond to her parents' voices.
