Saudi Arabia withdraws from China-led digital payments platform mBridge

Saudi Arabia has withdrawn from the China-led cross-border payments platform mBridge, designed to allow central banks to transact directly using digital currencies. Riyadh stopped participating after completing its proof-of-concept phase in May 2025. Saudi Arabia said the withdrawal was part of its original plan and did not necessarily indicate that the decision was linked to US pressure.
