12-yr-old develops technology to convert footsteps into electricity
Ahmed Abdelsalam, a 12-year-old middle school student from US' Massachusetts, has developed VERDA, a system that converts everyday movement into usable electricity. The system captures kinetic energy generated by footsteps and other motion, then converts it into electrical power for real-world use. The invention earned Ahmed a place among the 10 finalists in the 3M Young Scientist Challenge 2026.
