India has requested Iran to release nearly 40 Indian seafarers who are being held in Iranian custody. The seafarers were reportedly detained from four different merchant ships seized by the Persian Gulf country over the past eight months on various charges. Earlier this month, Iran released all 25 crew members, including 17 Indians, who were onboard a seized Portuguese-flagged ship.
