Why is US helping Japan save its currency for first time in 10 years?

The US recently bought Japanese yen after the currency hit a 40-year low, marking its first such intervention in a decade. As Japan is the largest holder of US Treasuries, further yen weakness could trigger Treasury sales and raise US borrowing costs. Washington hopes stabilising the yen will ease pressure on America's debt market and finances.
