Cancer-causing ethylene oxide detected in 527 Indian food products by EU

The European Food Safety Authority has found the presence of ethylene oxide, a carcinogenic chemical, in 527 Indian-origin food products between September 2020 and April 2024. These contaminations were primarily found in nuts and sesame seeds (313), herbs and spices (60) and dietetic foods (48). While 87 consignments were rejected at the border, many others were later removed from markets.
