What is a Panenka penalty?

A Panenka penalty is a spot-kick technique where the taker softly chips ball straight down the middle instead of shooting powerfully into a corner. It works when the goalkeeper commits early and dives to either side, leaving the centre open. It is named after Antonín Panenka, whose decisive kick gave Czechoslovakia victory over West Germany in Euro 1976 final shootout.
