A 65-year-old British woman, Karen Newton, claimed she was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for six weeks despite holding a valid tourist visa. She alleged that guards told her ICE officers receive monetary bonuses per detention. Newton said she was handcuffed and taken to a facility that felt more like a prison than a detention centre.
