Why is Christmas called Xmas?

The "X" in Xmas comes from the Greek letter Chi (Χ), the first letter of "Χριστός" (Christos), meaning Christ. Early Christians used "X" as a sacred abbreviation for Jesus Christ. By the 15th century, Xmas had emerged as a widely used symbol for Christmas, according to The Voice.
