What is exploding head syndrome?

Exploding head syndrome (EHS) is a sleep disorder wherein a person hears loud noise or explosive crashing sound in their head. The sound isn't real or heard by anyone else. It typically happens suddenly when a person is beginning to fall asleep or when they wake up during night. EHS can occur along with flashes of light and muscle jerks.
