OpenAI on Thursday released major updates to its coding model, Codex, just hours after Anthropic unveiled Claude Opus 4.7, its most capable Opus AI model for software engineering tasks. The new updates enable Codex to work alongside user on computer, generate images and automate repetitive tasks. The rivalry between OpenAI and Anthropic has intensified over the years for AI dominance.
