What is zinc phosphide, the poison that killed a Mumbai family?

Zinc phosphide is a chemical compound widely used in rat poison. On its own, it's relatively stable. The danger begins the moment it enters human stomach. When zinc phosphide meets hydrochloric acid in stomach, a chemical reaction produces phosphine gas, that's extraordinarily toxic even in tiny amounts. Four members of a family in Mumbai died due to zinc phosphide consumption.
