Biden is first US President in 56 years to drop out of re-election bid
President Joe Biden is the first US President in nearly 56 years to exit the re-election bid. In 1968, Lyndon Johnson said he wouldn't seek another term after a single state's primary amid the Vietnam War. Before Johnson, Harry S Truman said in 1952 he wouldn't seek re-election. Both were Democrats and in both cases, Republicans won the US election.
