Finance Ministry's 2025 post on MDR resurfaces after new UPI charge rules

A post shared by Finance Ministry on June 11, 2025, in which it rejected speculations of a Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions, has resurfaced after the new rules. It had called the speculations false. "The Government remains fully committed to promoting digital payments via UPI," it added. Notably, the government imposed 0.4% MDR on person-to-merchant payments above ₹2,000.
