Govt to ensure UPI MDR not passed on to consumers

The government will ask Indian Banks' Association to prevent the 0.4% MDR charge from being passed to consumers. Official sources clarified UPI MDR is not a tax — no money goes to the government. The 0.4% is split among issuing banks, merchant acquirers, UPI apps, and PSP banks within the payment ecosystem.
