How did a visitor dropping a Cheetos bag disrupt ecosystem of one of America's largest caves?

A visitor dropping a Cheetos bag inside New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns National Park in 2023 disrupted cave's delicate ecosystem. The cave's humidity made the snack residue soggy, encouraging fungal and mould growth that attracted cave crickets, mites, spiders, and flies. Rangers used a toothbrush to carefully clean the affected area, as cave's natural formations can be damaged by rough handling.
