Milky Way swallowed dwarf galaxy 11.8 billion years ago: Study
Scientists have found evidence that the Milky Way swallowed a dwarf galaxy 11.8 billion years ago, in its earliest galactic merger. Named Low-energy-Kraken-Heracles, or LKH, the galaxy contained stars with about 500 million times the Sun's mass and was roughly a quarter as massive as the Milky Way then. Researchers used Hubble and Gaia telescopes to trace the merger event.
