Researchers from City University of Hong Kong have developed NRE-skin, a new type of electronic skin (e-skin), which lets robots "feel" pain like humans. NRE-skin has four layers, with the top layer being a protective cover like the epidermis. "[It] encodes dynamic tactile stimuli into neural-like pulse trains and features active pain detection that triggers protective reflexes," the study stated.
