US may ask parents to prove citizenship or immigration status to get passports for their kids

The US State Department has proposed requiring parents to prove their own citizenship or immigration status when applying for passports for their children. It's part of President Donald Trump's effort to restrict birthright citizenship and enforce August 6 executive order targeting what his administration calls "birth tourism". Parents could be asked to provide proof such as a valid US passport.
