Under Indian law, citizens cannot hold both Indian and foreign passports, and possession of multiple passports can result in impounding or revocation as per the Passports Act, 1967. This is because passports are tied to citizenship, and dual citizenship is not permitted. The issue surfaced after Congress alleged that Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife, Riniki, possesses three foreign passports.
