Zohran Mamdani criticised for calling hijab 'identity of Muslim women'
New York mayor Zohran Mamdani posted a message on World Hijab Day, calling the head covering "identity and pride" of Muslim women. He called the hijab "a powerful symbol of devotion & celebration of Muslim heritage." Responding to Mamdani's post, an exiled Iranian journalist said, "Really? Women in my wounded country, Iran, are being shot and killed for refusing hijab."
