Australia doubles fine to $68 mn for firms flouting kids' social media ban

Australia will double penalties to A$99 million ($68 million) for firms that fail to adhere to its under-16 social media restrictions. The government will also strengthen the internet regulator's powers, allowing it to require social media firms to prove they are preventing under-16s from creating accounts. This comes after PM Anthony Albanese's claims of limited compliance from major platforms.
