China's Tianwen-2 spacecraft has captured the first-ever close-up image of Earth's rare "minimoon", asteroid Kamoʻoalewa (2016 HO3). It photographed the quasi-satellite from about 20 km away after travelling nearly one billion km through space. Despite its nickname, Kamoʻoalewa is not Earth's second moon but a quasi-satellite that orbits the Sun while remaining gravitationally linked to Earth.
