A team of Italian researchers revealed that classical and jazz music structures have become simpler over time. On analysing over 21,000 pieces from 1600 to 2021, it was found that modern pieces used more repetitive melodic and harmonic patterns and look more similar to pop, rock, and other newer genres. "We are observing an evolution in music," a researcher said.
